FAQs
- Do I need a recorder to make movies with the BLACKEYE™ camera? Yes, you need a recording device such as a SD-Card Recorder, Camcorder,
Hard Drive Recorder in order to record a video. The BLACKEYE™ camera is the "eye" in the system, which feeds the camcorder with what it sees.
- Is the BLACKEYE™ camera water proof? BLACKEYE™
cameras are designed to withstand rough treatments in any kind of sports. They are water resistant, which means they can take short dips into water, will resist the moisture of snow (wipe it off here and there) or regular rain - if not exposed to it for too long.
You should be aware that the camera is a high-tech electronic instrument which should always be stored in a dry and cool place. Similar to your recorder. So, don't forget to take it out of your wet sports bag and don't leave it in your damp car.
-
Does the camera fit my helmet? The models BLACKEYE™ TWO/540 are designed to fit all helmets or your bare forehead. The list of helmet manufacturers, helmet models and helmet shapes is endless. But the different adaptors (included) take care of this variety and make
the camera fit on almost any helmet.
(If you own one of the very exotic models which doesn't work well with the adaptors, a little creativity and a small piece of foam should do the trick)
The model BLACKEYE&trade ONE can be mounted to helmets as well, but needs a little bit of technical skill to do so.
- What kind of batteries
do I need for the camera? You need 8 regular AA batteries for the battery pack. You can get these type of batteries at almost any super market or gas station around the world. If you want to save money on batteries long term, you can also use AA size
NiMH rechargeable batteries. Technically they work as good as disposable ones.
- How do I clean my camera? Try to keep your unit dry and clean. Wipe off dirt and mud with a clean and soft towel. Use a moist
sponge (not soaking wet) and mild soap for additional cleaning. For cleaning the lens use a soft cloth like you use it for cleaning regular reading glasses. (Don't use paper towels on the lens. As on all sports glasses/goggles, paper towels create micro-scratches,
which you don't want to have in your vision)
Do not use any abrasive, aggressive or acidic detergents on your BLACKEYE™ head- and helmet camera.
- What does PAL and NTSC mean? PAL and NTSC are
two different analog video standards for TV sets and camcorders etc. Without going into too much detail, PAL is most commonly used in Europe and NTSC is used in the USA and Japan. (If you have an NTSC camcorder or TV, you need an NTSC BLACKEYE™ camera
in order to successfully record footage - and vice versa). NTSC and PAL systems don't work together. Digital recorders like SD-Card Recorders or Hard Drive Recorders can handle both signals.
- Can I use my camera in extreme
cold/hot conditions? The camera has a range of operating temperature that should not be exceeded. The temperature range covers almost any temperature in which you still would feel comfortable making movies. So, it's more likely that your enthusiasm
says good bye due to extreme conditions. The operating temperature of the camera is –10°C to +40°C (14°F to 104°F).
- Do all recorders have A/V ports? Most recorders have A/V-out ports,
many have an additional A/V-in port. It simply depends on the recorder model. Almost all manufacturer sell models with the required A/V-in port. To use your BLACKEYE™ camera successfully, you need a recorder with an A/V-in port.
-
What is the resolution of the BLACKEYE™ cameras? There are three resolutions available. BLACKEYE™ TWO has a resolution of 420TV lines (512 x 492 pixel for NTSC models, 500 x 582 pixel for PAL models). BLACKEYE™ 540 has a resolution
of 540TV lines (768 x 494 pixel for NTSC models, 752 x 582 pixel for PAL models). BLACKEYE™ ONE has a resolution of 550TV lines (768 x 494 pixel for NTSC models, 752 x 582 pixel for PAL models)
TV lines of resolution are an indicator for the video quality of the system. 420 TV lines to 550 TV lines are very good resolutions.
-
Does the BLACKEYE™ camera work in low light conditions? Yes, the camera has a superb response to low light condition as well as to bright light. You'll be surprised by the wide range of light it can adjust to. Go from a sunny day outside into
the low light of a parking garage – your camera will electronically adjust to it (It most likely out-performs your regular digital camera).
- Can I get spare parts or custom made parts for my BLACKEYE™ camera? In
case you lost parts, need extra ones or want to customize your unit, please send us an email and we'll be happy to assist you at reasonable cost. |
